What is Temperature?
A setting that controls how predictable or creative an AI's output is — low for consistent answers, high for variety.
At a low temperature the model sticks to the most likely words, which is good for facts, summaries and code. At a higher temperature it takes more chances, which helps brainstorming, poetry and taglines but also increases odd or wrong output.
Chat apps usually set this for you. You can still get the same effect with words: “give me 10 wildly different ideas” versus “give me the single most accurate answer”.
Where you'll see it
Developer tools and APIs expose temperature as a number, often from 0 to 1 or 2.
