What is AI watermark?
An invisible or visible marker that shows an image, video or text was made by AI, so it can be identified later.
Many AI companies now embed hidden watermarks or attach content credentials to generated media. Platforms can read these to label posts as AI-generated, which helps fight misinformation.
Watermarks aren't perfect — heavy editing or screenshots can weaken them — so they work best alongside honest labelling. Many platforms ask creators to disclose realistic AI content themselves.
For creators, honest labelling also protects your reputation: audiences increasingly notice AI images, and being upfront builds trust. If you use AI for a brand campaign, check the client's and the platform's rules on disclosure before you publish.
Good practice
When you post a realistic AI portrait or video, add “Made with AI” in the caption, even if the platform doesn't force you to.
