What is Reasoning model?
An AI model that works through a problem step by step before answering, trading speed for accuracy on hard questions.
Reasoning models spend extra time “thinking” — breaking a question into steps, checking their work and trying alternatives — before they give a final answer. They are noticeably better at maths, logic, coding and multi-step planning.
The trade-off is speed and cost. For a quick caption or a casual question, a standard model is fine; for an exam problem, a tricky spreadsheet formula or debugging, switch to a reasoning mode.
When to use it
“Find the mistake in my JEE physics solution and explain it step by step” is a good job for a reasoning model.
