Claude AI Now Offers In-Country Inference in India
Anthropic is bringing Claude inference inside India through Amazon Bedrock, helping eligible enterprises keep AI prompts and responses within Indian infrastructure.

Anthropic is making Claude more accessible for enterprise AI use in India by introducing in-country inference through Amazon Bedrock. The change means eligible organizations can run Claude inference within Indian infrastructure, addressing an important concern for businesses that need stronger data-residency controls.
For many Indian enterprises, using generative AI is not only about model quality. Where sensitive information is processed can be equally important. Banks, healthcare organizations, government departments and large companies may handle financial records, customer information, business documents and other sensitive data that require strict security and compliance controls.
With in-country inference, the basic workflow becomes simpler for organizations that want to keep AI processing closer to their Indian operations:
Indian company → Sensitive prompt or business data → India-based inference → AI response
Anthropic's rollout through Amazon Bedrock covers Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Haiku 4.5. This gives eligible organizations access to different levels of Claude capability while supporting an India-based inference option.
The development is also significant because software development is a major part of Claude usage in India. According to Anthropic's data reported by The Times of India, software development represents 45.2% of work-related Claude usage in India, the highest share among its markets.
That makes India-based Claude infrastructure particularly relevant to developers and engineering teams. Companies building internal coding assistants, customer-support systems, enterprise search tools or AI agents can potentially have more options when designing their data-handling architecture.
The announcement also reflects a broader trend in enterprise AI: data residency is becoming part of the product decision, not just an infrastructure detail. Companies increasingly want powerful AI models while maintaining greater control over where their data is processed.
For Indian businesses, the combination of advanced Claude models, Amazon Bedrock and India-based inference could therefore remove one of the practical barriers to deploying generative AI at enterprise scale.
The bigger picture is clear: AI adoption in India is moving beyond simply asking which model is smartest. Businesses are increasingly asking where the model runs, how data is handled and whether AI systems can fit their security and compliance requirements.
